It is estimated that 7%-8% of the general population is a part of the LGBTQIA+ community. However, when you look at neurodivergent individuals (most commonly ADHD and Autism), 30%-70% of neurodivergent individuals are estimated to also be a part of the LGBTQIA+ community (Blair). With this significant overlap, specializing in working with neurodivergent individuals means you will be working with individuals in the LGBTQIA+ community as well.

Over the years I have supported countless clients in the LGBTQIA+ community. I have supported individuals exploring their gender identity, teens coming out to their parents, written letters for clients seeking gender affirming care, educated parents on how to support their LGBTQIA+ children, processed loss that occurred when coming out, and so much more. The LGBTQIA+ community is vast and still developing as we identify more terms to help differentiate and express different lived experiences. Due to this, there may be gaps in my knowledge at times, but there will never be a lack of support.

Being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community deserves to be respected and honored. In therapy sessions you will be accepted as you are and given the space to discuss your identities as much or as little as you want. Sometimes it may be the most important part of what is going on in your life, other times it may feel like a familiar part of the background, but it will always be welcomed and accepted.
