About Me

Hi, I’m Katie!

(She/Her)

I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, a National Certified Counselor, and a Professional School Counselor in North Carolina. I received my Master of Science (M.S.) and Education Specialist (Ed.S.) in Counseling from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro in May of 2019. Since then I have worked as a school counselor in Guilford county and as a therapist at a group practice before founding my own practice, Authentic Pathways, in October of 2024.

I created Authentic Pathways with the intention of helping others achieve informed authenticity. The concept of informed authenticity was first introduced to me at a panel at Comic Con. The speaker was talking about the importance of putting your best foot forward in a professional setting while also ensuring you are staying true to yourself and letting your personality come through.

As an AuDHD individual, who primarily supports other neurodivergent adults, this concept resonated deeply with me. Living in a society filled with systems that are not made for neurodivergent individuals we are often trying to put our “best foot forward” and too often that looks like masking to the point that we start to lose our sense of self. Authentic Pathways was created to help people explore how to pave their own path through life in a way that feels good and authentic to them. It was created with the vision of helping empower individuals to take control of their lives and do the things they have always wanted to do. I support this process by providing clients with a safe space to explore and express what they truly want in life while providing tools and resources to help set them up for success

In Loving Memory

Felix Hewitt

(5/27/19-5/18/26)

I adopted Felix, the ferret, after graduating from my graduate counseling program in 2019. Felix was there with me since the beginning of my counseling career. He was with me through being a school counselor, the pandemic, transitions to telehealth, outpatient sessions with masks, and eventually starting my own practice. Felix was always a part of my life that I openly shared with students, clients, and coworkers. Everyone loved to see pictures of him, see him pop up in the background of a telehealth session, and I even had a ferret puppet for students to play with. One of the benefits of starting Authentic Pathways was that I was able to work from home and Felix was able to spend a lot more time outside of his cage. During telehealth sessions Felix would often make brief appearances bringing smiles to clients’ faces. Some clients would even request to see him from time to time because he was such a sweet and well known presence in our sessions. He will always be a foundational part of both Authentic Pathways and my counseling career and so I let his memory live on here and hope that you enjoy these pictures of him.
